IGNOU PhD Entrance Examination

IGNOU Doctor of Philosophy offers advanced research opportunities across multiple disciplines like Home Science, Sanskrit, Child Development, Women’s Studies, etc. IGNOU PhD program needs 3 to 6 years duration to complete. Candidates must have a master’s degree with at least 55% marks from a recognized university. Students can apply and submit application forms with registration fee of INR 1000. The date for application submission is 31st October 2024.

Eligibility Criteria of PhD Entrance Exam

** Students who want to be admitted to this course have to achieve a minimum of 55% of marks in a 1-year/2-semester master’s degree program after a 4-years/8-semester bachelor’s degree program or a 2-year/4-semester master’s degree program after a 3-year/6-semesters bachelor’s degree and equivalent qualification will also be considered.

** Students who want to be admitted directly after a 4-year/8-semester bachelor’s degree program should have to maintain an aggregate of 75% marks in their highest qualification degree.

Reservation and Relaxation :
** A relaxation of 5% marks or its equivalent grade will be provided to the candidates who belong to the reserved category including EWS, OBC, SC, ST, and PWD.

Scheme of PhD Entrance Examination

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) approves admission to the doctoral degree program on the combination of successful performance in the entrance test, academic exam, and personal interview.

The entrance examination factor for the Ph.D. degree program is well-explained in the parts that follow.
** The IGNOU Ph.D. entrance test is conducted offline across the country in selected test centers.
** The examination is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), and it lasts for 3 hours (180 minutes).
** All students, whether they successfully passed the MPhil/NET/JRF are required to appear in the IGNOU PhD entrance examination.
** The entrance examination fee is INR 1000/- for the IGNOU PhD in the 2024 session.
** Admit cards will be uploaded, once the registration process is completed by the university.
** The duration of the examination will be 180 minutes which is around 3 hours.
** The timing of the examinations will be 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
** The syllabus and Questionnaire pattern will be notified soon by NTA for student assistance.
** The medium of language is Hindi/English and the test will be held in Online mode.
** The paper will be of 400 marks in total.
** Students should have completed their PG/Mphil to be eligible for the Ph.D. courses.
** General Category students must have obtained at least 55% marks in their PG/M.Phil whereas for the reserved category, students are required to score 50% marks or above in their PG/MPhil degree.
** A merit list has been prepared to shortlist students who have qualified for the entrance examination. Afterward, the interview round will be conducted for the students whose dates are out.

Instruction to Fill Application Online for PhD Entrance Exam

1. If you are a first time applicant you are advised to click the available programme tab on the homepage of the Online Admission System and select the desired programme and carefully read the details of programme including eligibility criteria, fee details, duration, etc.

2. You are also requested to download the Common Prospectus and read carefully the Rules of the University as mentioned in the common prospectus.
** Click on the button NEW REGISTRATION that appears in the applicant login area and fill the required registration details.
** Please provide your own email and mobile number at the time of registration.
** Remember, while choosing your User Name it must be between 8 to 16 characters.
** While choosing your password it must be alphanumeric and between 8 to 16 characters long.
** After filling the mandatory information click the “SUBMIT” button.
** Your username will be instantly sent to you via e-mail and SMS.

3. Remember your Username and Password for subsequent login.
4. If you have already registered i.e you are an existing user click the “LOGIN” button.

5. Before proceeding for filling the form online the applicant must have the following:-
** Scanned Photograph (less than 100 KB)
** Scanned Signature (less than 100 KB)
** Scanned copy of relevant Educational Qualification (less than 200 KB)
** Scanned Copy of Experience Certificate (if any) (less than 200 KB)
** Scanned Copy of Category Certificate, if SC/ST/OBC (less than 200 KB)

6. Fee can be paid by the following methods:

7. It is necessary to scan documents from your originals. Once you have uploaded the document, click the next button you will get the Form preview option. Save/Print your form for future reference.
8. Please fill up the details carefully. If you are using the services of a cybercafe to fill up your form, please make sure that details are correctly filled up and the relevant documents are uploaded as prescribed.
