Gauhati University GURET
Admission into the autumn session of the PhD Programme of Gauhati University for the academic session 2024-2025 . GURET (GU Research Eligibility Test) is the first screening test after the Central Application Process (CAP) for admission into the PhD Programmes of GU, unless an applicant qualifies for an exemption. Written Examination will be held on 07th July 2024. Last date for submission of application form is 15th June 2024.

Eligibility of GURET
International Applicants should see the section- International Applicants
1. Any person having a Postgraduate degree of GU or from any recognised university or institute in a subject in the Faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce, management, Law, Technology, Engineering and Medicine or other professional subjects of GU with not less than 55 percent of marks or equivalent grade in the concerned subject may apply for admission into the PhD programmes in the concerned subject in which the candidate has the Master’s Degree or in an allied subject.
** The minimum marks for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates or a differently-abled candidate (with equal to or more than 40% disability) is 50% 0r equivalent grade.
2. In case or Medical Science, the rules of Medical Council of India/ Indian Nursing Council/ Rehabilitation Council of India/ Recommendation of Faculty of Medicine for Clinical Courses shall be followed ( Where necessary)
3. Students who have appeared or are appearing in their postgraduate final examinations may also apply for admission into the PhD Programmes. However, such candidates will be required to furnish their results before the final selection list of successful applicants is prepared by the concerned department.
4. An applicant who is in a service (either permanent or temporary or part-time) should have a “No Objection Certificate” from the employer before admission can be allowed.
Applicant Fee of GURET
** Applicant fee is Rs.1500.00 ( One thousand Five Hundred) only per subject and the bank transaction fee. For appearing 2 (two) subjects, the application fee will be Rs.2500.00+ Bank Transaction Charge.
** All applicants (irrespective of any exemptions) MUST go through the CAP and pay the CAP fee after successful completion of the CAP. Without the remittance of this fee, you will not be able appear in the GURET-2024. The fee should be paid through online payment gateway only.

Selection Process of GURET
1. Admission into the autumn session of the PhD Programme of Gauhati University for the academic session 2024-2025 (August, 2024 to July, 2025) is a three tier process.

2. Completing the CAP DOES NOT guarantee admission into the PhD Programme
3. All applicants, (if you are an International student, please visit IRW (the International Relations Wings), MUST go through the Central Application Process (CAP), irrespective of any fellowship they might have either through any scheme or any research project ( see below for exemptions). The CAP will be facilitated through this website with a dedicated Online Portal.
Structure, Timing & Marking:
** The question paper will contain 100 Multiple Choice Questions. For every right answer, 1 Mark will be awarded and for every wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. There will no marking for un- attempted questions.
** The syllabus for the GURET 2024 will be that of the concerned Master’s subject. The syllabi for all master’s courses can be found in the University Website.
Other Details of GURET-2024 :
Merit list will be prepared only on the basis of marks obtained in GURET-2024. In case of a tie. i.e. when two or more candidates obtain equal marks, inter-se merit of such candidates shall be decided as follows
(i) Resolution by finding the ratio of positive marks and negative marks. Candidate having higher absolute value of the ratio will be given better rank.
(ii) Resolution by number of unanswered questions. Candidate with less number of unanswered questions will be given better rank.
(iii) If the resolution is not possible after this criterion, candidates with higher age will be given better rank.
